What is a mage?

A mage is an individual, often depicted as a figure of legend and fantasy, who practices magic. Mages are typically portrayed as powerful and mysterious figures who are capable of controlling the elements, casting spells, and conjuring creatures of myth and legend.

In many depictions, mages are seen as solitary figures who live apart from mainstream society, often in towers or other isolated locations, where they can conduct their magical studies and practice their craft without interruption.

Mages often have a deep knowledge of ancient and arcane lore, and may spend years or even decades studying and perfecting their craft. In many fantasy worlds, mages are divided into different orders or factions, each with their own unique specializations and styles of magic.

As powerful figures in their own right, mages are often the targets of those who seek to control or exploit their magical abilities for their own ends, and as such, they must be constantly vigilant to protect themselves and their knowledge from those who would seek to do them harm.
